Xylotek is pleased to have supported Moxon Architects and COWI in recent weeks on the second stage development of their shortlisted proposal for National Highways’ Low Carbon Footbridge competition.
The team’s concept, designed for a site at the Lower Thames Crossing, explores how engineered timber can be used to deliver low embodied carbon and long service life through smart, durability-led design. The approach reflects a wider interest in extending timber’s role in infrastructure — not just for carbon savings, but for performance and buildability too.
It’s also encouraging to see several other shortlisted teams investigating the potential of timber in this context. We hope this signals more opportunities for wood to play a meaningful role in future UK infrastructure.
Best of luck to the team in the final stage of the competition.
