Xylotek will be contributing to the upcoming designTimber 2026 webinar series, which examines the role of timber in contemporary architecture through built projects and technical discussion.
The sessions draw on two contrasting schemes, the Urban Nature Project developed for the Natural History Museum in London and Rafter Walk, using each project as a lens to explore timber design, detailing and delivery in practice.
The Urban Nature Project session focuses on a timber-led public scheme recognised for its integration of structure, landscape and low-carbon material strategy. The project includes two primary timber buildings, a café and an education pavilion, delivered as part of the wider re-imagining of the museum’s public realm.
The Rafter Walk session examines a different set of challenges, looking at timber strategy, structural resolution and detailing within a more compact building context. Together, the two sessions provide a broader view of how timber design decisions respond to different architectural, technical and site conditions.
Across both sessions, discussion will consider how timber design and detailing support architectural intent, environmental performance and long-term durability. Attention will be given to material selection, structural strategy and the collaborative processes required to deliver complex timber buildings.
