Oscar Emanuel will speak at the Bridges 2025 Conference next week, presenting on the role of timber in delivering low-carbon infrastructure.
His session, Timber in Bridges, will draw on recent projects — including Rafter Walk at Canada Water (pictured) — to explore how species selection, procurement, detailing and moisture management can all influence the performance and longevity of timber bridge structures.
The talk will also cover examples of repair and reuse, such as the Kinsol Trestle, and consider how industrialised approaches to timber construction could shape the future of bridge design.
