The Timber Cycle Pavilion forms a key entrance point to Oxford North, the city’s new global innovation district. Designed by Fletcher Priest Architects, the pavilion is both a striking landmark and a highly functional piece of infrastructure, providing covered cycle parking and a stair with integrated travelator to link the development’s transport routes.
Xylotek delivered the full timber structure, comprising of a glulam frame in Douglas fir with Douglas fir CLT decks. The roof was optimised by installing the CLT on a pitch, improving durability and simplifying installation. Around the perimeter, Accoya fins provide both solar screening and architectural expression, with Accoya also used internally to line the stair.
Our scope included the complete superstructure package: glulam frame, CLT decks, perimeter fins, steel components, barriers, floor finishes, roof finishes and the installation of a bespoke bike travelator.
The pavilion showcases the role timber can play in large-scale infrastructure projects, combining structural efficiency with low-carbon materials to support the sustainable ambitions of Oxford North.
