Workshop Manager, Bristol

Xylotek Ltd seeks a Workshop manager to join our team to set up and manage our new workshop in central Bristol.

Who we seek:

We seek a skilled self-motivated workshop manager. Passionate about innovation in wood construction with experience in the fields of production, fabrication or site construction management. Knowledge of workshop tooling, production processes, Health and Safety practices and contemporary digital design techniques, is essential.

The Workshop Manager will ensure the workshop is fit for the safe and efficient delivery of projects built to a very high standard.

The role will entail:

  • Overseeing development of workshop and facilities tooling, processes and facilities.
  • Program and organise workshop logistics, job resourcing and project flow
  • Liaise with Fabrication Designer and Operations team to plan resource management.
  • Manage and Maintain machinery and all physical infrastructure
  • Maintain workshop inventory and consumables to budget.
  • Manage and Ensure fabrication teams understand health and safety requirements.
  • Hands-on involvement in project fabrication; leading teams where appropriate.
  • Using 3D models, fabrication drawings and CADCAM workflows to access fabrication information.

Salary negotiable. The Workshop Manager will be based in our central Bristol workshop.

Summary of role requirements:

  • A passion for high-quality design and construction.
  • A thorough understanding of timber and its possibilities.
  • Thorough and varied construction (preferably timber) experience.
  • Knowledge of fixed workshop machinery, power tools and hand tools.
  • Knowledge or experience of CNC machinery and CADCAM workflows
  • Experience of fabrication with other materials, inc. Welding TiG, MiG and Arc
  • Rhino and CAD Work
  • Fluent English written and spoken
  • desirable – 2D and 3D CAD and BIM
  • Excel, spreadsheets, programmes/Gantt charts

Production Designer, Bristol

We seek a skilled digital designer with expertise in timber structural fabrication and assembly, passionate about innovation in wood architecture. With experience in the fields of architecture, engineering, making or construction. Knowledge of contemporary digital design techniques, CADCAM workflows and the ability to produce fabrication drawings, is important.

The Production Designer forms a link between the workshop, third-party fabricators, and project designers / managers.

They will:

  • Carry out concept design and parametric modelling of timber structures.
  • Carry out 2D/3D Connection detailing and development
  • Produce fabrication drawings for workshop teams.
  • Produce installation method and plans for site teams.
  • Undertake pricing of projects and processes.
  • Prepare machine files and work with external CNC and robotic fabricators.
  • Take a hands-on role in the fabrication and aid fabrication teams where appropriate.
  • Ensure project designers / managers understand the fabrication techniques currently available in the company and design appropriately.
  • Oversee quality assurance and control.

Salary negotiable. The Production Designer will be based at the Bristol workshop.

Office & Facilities Manager, Bristol

Xylotek seeks an Office & Facilities Manager to join our team in delivering advanced timber structures.

We are a growing timber design and construction company seeking to expand our capacity to deliver exceptional structures in wood.

Working with clients, architects and engineers at the highest level, Xylotek connects digital design and fabrication techniques with capability in practical delivery, driven by a passionate understanding of the complexities of wood and its potential to improve the built environment.

Who we seek:

We seek an Office & Facilities Manager to run the administration for the company at our new workshop and office facility in Bristol.

This person will enjoy the variety of roles that only come with working for a small, growing Company.

We are looking for someone driven and ambitious to grow with us.

 

The role will entail:

  • Providing front of house reception.
  • Carrying out all necessary activities to ensure the efficient and smooth running of the office, both for our remote and workshop-based activities.
  • Maintaining and solving any problems that may arise with equipment or systems to ensure smooth running of the office.
  • Devising & implementing filing and archiving systems to promote efficiency in the office.
  • Managing the “universal diary” of people and vehicle movements, meeting dates etc.
  • Keeping stock of and ordering supplies when necessary.
  • Ad- Hoc PA for the senior management team.
  • Being a part of the sales team, finance team, Hr support, as and when called upon
  • Ad-hoc assisting the project management, and workshop managers

Salary negotiable. The role will be based at the Bristol workshop. Part time or full time considered depending on situation.

Person / Skill Specification:

Must have:

  • Good IT skills, especially Word and Excel.
  • Good communication skills to liaise with all stakeholders of the business at all levels
  • Drive to innovate, create, implement and manage office systems,
  • Self-motivation and timekeeping

Desirable:

  • Experience working with sub-contractors
  • Experience with design or construction companies or similar roles
  • Sales experience

Preferably with experience in the field of structural carpentry, with a knowledge of the contemporary  engineered timber materials and fabrication processes. Knowledge of workshop tooling, Health and Safety practices and contemporary digital design techniques, is essential.

The carpenter will have the specialist skills and experience to fabricate our projects safely, on-time and to a very high standard.

The role will entail:

  • Working to fabrication drawings and, where appropriate, 3D models.
  • Different scales of fabrication; from prototyping to building-scale construction.
  • Completing work to strict deadlines and with a high degree of precision
  • Imputing into design fabrication processes and monitoring progress
  • Using a wide array of timber tooling and techniques, traditional and modern:
  • Leading fabrication teams where appropriate.
  • Coordination with project managers and site teams.
  • Ensuring Health and Safety and Fire Safety regulations are followed at all times.
  • Quality assurance and control.
